Description: Appointed actuaries are facing a number of changes in the regulatory landscape. Some of these occurred in the past few years, such as AG51 (Asset Adequacy Testing for LTC). Some were very recently put in effect and are evolving, such as AG53 (Modeling and Documentation of Complex Assets). Some are quickly approaching, such as the potential changes to asset adequacy testing requirements for reinsurance ceded by life insurers. In addition, changes to qualification requirements are on the horizon. Hear from appointed actuaries about the challenges they’ve experienced and how they’ve worked through them. Also, learn what challenges and opportunities they see in the near future and how they are preparing for coming changes.

Drawing from contemporary works like 'How Minds Change' and 'Think Again,' this session will equip actuaries with tools to recognize and deal with cognitive biases present in communication, and foster a culture of continuous learning and open-mindedness. Attendees will leave with working knowledge of some of the psychological forces at play in decision-making and communication, strategies for engaging in more productive dialogues, and tools to facilitate belief changes in themselves and others.

Description: The post COVID-19 period exhibited a fast-changing capital market with higher interest rates, uncertain monetary policies, and revaluation of asset classes. At the same time, regulators introduced changes to reward better risk management, such as the scenario-based approach for reserving under Bermuda regulatory framework. For life reinsurers, while new opportunities arising from these changes, challenges also exist to be able to adjust reinsurance portfolios and ALM strategies appropriately. A holistic modeling framework can assist companies better position themselves in front of these challenges and other potential future unknowns. In particular, a well-designed stochastic and dynamic modeling framework enables the quantifications of such probabilities and potential impacts.
