As their careers advance, the actuary's audience continues to broaden to include non-actuarial professionals from a variety of disciplines, senior executives, and customers. They must learn to communicate effectively with any audience that they are faced with. They must be able to make a compelling case for their point-of-view in a simple and succinct fashion. It will discuss the three types of systemic biases using the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) model. The NIST model details the three types as historical bias, societal bias, and institutionalbias. The session will also provide several examples of each type to provide a framework for identifying the social structure of bias.
