Description: Pandemic modeling and its impact on the insurance and reinsurance business have been the subject of scrutiny during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared its end as a global health emergency, the focus of insurers and reinsurers turns to the possibility of future pandemics. Key to considering possible future pandemics is assessing what is needed to model pandemic risks. Our presentation will focus on providing you with the following: - The main principles around creating a well-established pandemic risk modeling framework, what they are and how you should build them into your model (As a reinsurer, this is core to our business, and we have unique global insights into performing it.) - A review of pandemic risk modeling strategies as well as an understanding of the inherent uncertainties of pandemic events - Lessons learned from COVID-19 and how we can apply them in assessing the possibility of future pandemics - An understanding of the link between future pandemic risk and the capital requirements

Description: The last 20 years of global interest rate experience has low interest rates for long periods of time ('low for long'), negative interest rates, strange yield curve shapes, and now the most rapid increase in interest rates in our history. What is it we should be focused on as risk managers? Low for long, high rates due to prolonged inflation, or some blend of the two? The session will discuss our interest rate experience and the factors that appear to be dominant for the next decade. The session will address how one establishes a set of stylized facts to guide the development of a suitable interest rate model and how calibration targets can be determined. Discussion will then move to the suitability of existing interest rate models for capturing the real-world risks that actuaries and other finance professionals are concerned with. Are there interest rate models that are fit for purpose given the past 20 years of experience? A selection of candidate models will be discussed and illustrated.

Description: Dive into an integrative approach to Precision Medicine - how our modern capacity to interrogate a disease heterogeneity (from omics and phenotyping) and parallel advances in 'big data' together are driving to transform the practice of traditional medicine to precision medicine. After defining the relevant terminologies and the components of precision medicine, the speaker will walk through the spectrum in precision medicine and how it leads to personalized management of disease, which can impact underwriting approaches, product development and pricing. Diabetes will be used as a specific example.
