Description: The National Association of Worksite Medical Clinics reported that one-third of U.S. employers with 5,000+ employees sponsored worksite (onsite) health care centers in 2017, and 24 percent of employers with 500-4,999 either have or plan to implement onsite health care by 2019. This session will explore why onsite health care programs are gaining traction: • Why do employers sponsor onsite healthcare? • What objectives do they hope to achieve? • How does the evidence compare with these objectives?

Description: Insurance commissioners and/or deputy commissioners will discuss a variety of current topics including health care reform, risks in the major medical markets, voluntary products and other topics. At the conclusion of the session, attendees will be able to identify issues that are on the mind of the regulatory agencies and the different approaches used across the country.

Description: Enterprise Risk Management is often thought to be synonymous with managing an insurance company toward financial objectives with a focus on insurance-specific risks. Some might argue though that operational risks are the crux of all risks confronted by an insurance company and ultimately drive the company’s outcomes.Operational risk is the risk of impact on financial outcomes due to operational events, involving internal systems, personnel, procedures or controls, and also external events. Operational risk exists in all business activities, covering fraud, human error, accounting errors, legal actions and system failures. All of these activities could occur during the course of conducting day-to-day business operations. Additionally, insurance executives must consider the pace of change in the external environment and potential impacts on their business. This presentation is focused on operational risks, current and emerging, faced by health insurance companies.

Description: This two part session will review some examples of public and population health initiatives and their economic and business case. It will also talk about the work of the SOA's Public Health Task force and how actuaries can get involved in their communities. We will also provide an update on Social Security

Description: One of the Health Section's key focuses in 2019 is Initiative 18/11. Last year the SOA joined forces with the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) to answer the nagging question: “What can we do about the cost of healthcare?” A steering group has been formed to lead a research project as to what managed care companies can do to reduce costs without sacrificing quality. The project [called Managed Care 3.0 in the 18/11 paper] will examine historical models that have worked as well as investigate the impact that new technologies and care models may have on cost and quality, with the goal of better understanding the current environment and identify­ing potential risks and opportunities.
