Description: Insurance is a technically demanding, risk-based, capital intensive business. It is therefore not surprising that the industry is fertile ground for the development of technical models used to measure and price risk and manage capital. This session presents the forces which have significantly influenced the evolution of risk and capital management techniques and organization in the insurance industry, including regulatory changes, financial market instability, enlightened self-interest and ultimately a focus on shareholder value creation. Combining over 20 years in the industry in risk and finance roles with a rigorous academic approach, the presenter will provide insights into the most important business questions which insurers face today and the technical tools and frameworks used to answer them.

Description: Demographers have typically viewed mortality trends from historical and cross-national perspectives, looking at commonalities in the evolution of mortality. In general, with improving economic conditions mortality has tended to decline and life expectancies to rise. The epidemiological transition from a mortality pattern dominated by infectious diseases to one in which more endogenous causes of death predominate is a central theme.

As a result of ageing workforce and increasing life expectancy, retirement savings gap is becoming a major social issue for many countries. An effective retirement systems require all stakeholders including the government, employers, retirement services providers and individuals to understand the risks involved, their roles and responsibilities, and to commit to do their part in tackling the retirement savings gap issue. This presentation will point out where improvements can be made from each stakeholder's perspectives, with a focus on the Asia markets which contain a mix of some of the most populous countries in the world and countries with very small population, developed economies as well as emerging markets, young and old labor force, and finally different cultures, all of which affects how people view and prepare for retirement.

Inefficiency in healthcare system is a contributing factor. In this session, use cases on how AI is impacting the health insurance operations on 3 core challenges. Document processing: A lot of documents are generated in the healthcare ecosystem, medical reports, diagnosis, invoices etc. Currently most of the documents are still reviewed manually and rely heavily on users’ judgement. Customer engagement: Customers are generally under distress and feel rejected during the claim process. It is due to the time and process needed to get the information they look for, the gap between the sales and claims process, and the reimbursement amount. Claim settlements: Claim adjudication is a technical process that review the disease, treatment and policy coverage. The process is specific to disease and difficult to be generalized. Thus, the process is far from consistent and invites fraud, abuse and wastage in this area.
