It will discuss the three types of systemic biases using the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) model. The NIST model details the three types as historical bias, societal bias, and institutionalbias. Description: The Individual Life Experience Committee continues to unlock valuable insights from the VM51 data as the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) releases it. In this session, attendees will get a preview of individual life mortality patterns during COVID-19 for more than 100 companies in the NAIC data from 2020 to 2021, the first years of the pandemic. Attendees will also see early findings from the Committee's latest initiatives. These include integrating predictive analytics into its reporting products, assessing the impact of simplified and accelerated underwriting, exploring joint life mortality, evaluating company differences, and continuing its research into old-age patterns. Attendees will leave the session armed with additional knowledge for assessing best-estimate mortality for valuation.

Description: With LDTI in the rear-view mirror for 2023 adopters, and 2025 adopters still working to meet the requirements before reporting on an LDTI basis for the first time at year-end 2025, there remain many opportunities and challenges for all companies subject to LDTI. These may include further enhancements to modeling, improvements in end-to-end processes (such as automation and reducing the close financial timeline), development of robust management reporting and analysis frameworks, and enhancements to financial planning and analysis under LDTI.

Description: The valuation manual is a living document that continues to evolve. As more companies adopt Principle-Based Reserving (PBR) and file PBR Actuarial Reports, regulators have observed gaps and inconsistencies across the industry. As a result, PBR reporting requirements (VM-31) have expanded significantly in 2020 and still continue to evolve. This session will provide attendees with everything they need to fill out their PBR reports for both Life business and Variable Annuity business. We will dig into the new changes effective for 2020 reporting and approved changes for 2021, and compare and contrast the Life and VA requirements to help companies identify areas that can be leveraged between the two. In addition, we will share insights from regulators, consultants, and company actuaries on what to include or exclude in your report.
