Description: A few years ago, I had the opportunity to go from managing a team of 5 to almost losing my job to going back to an individual contributor role. I went through a rough period mentally, emotionally, and physically. In the midst of that experience, I got the opportunity to read "The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth" by John C. Maxwell. I credit this book to changing my life and setting me on the path to become a destroyer of self-limiting beliefs.

There are different avenues to break into the profession, but one of the most common is through an Actuarial Student Program, where a company formally supports the exam progress of individuals through paid study materials, exam fees, and time off to study. Most programs also include an emphasis on development of leadership and communication skills. As the recruiter for MassMutual’s Actuarial Student Program, I get the opportunity to regularly share with candidates why I believe a student program is such a powerful springboard for a successful actuarial career.
