Description: The Canadian Institute of Actuaries and Society of Actuaries Committee on Life Insurance Research, the Product Development Section and the Financial Reporting Section, sponsored this study investigating how the Canadian life insurance industry is utilizing predictive modelling.

Description: The Reinsurance Section, Product Development Section and the Committee on Life Insurance Research are pleased to present results from a company practice survey of individual life insurance accelerated underwriting. Performed by a Milliman team led by Al Klein and Karen Rudolph, the study provides perspectives from both direct life insurance companies and reinsurers. Among the areas addressed include the structure of accelerated underwriting programs, how programs are monitored, how accelerated underwritten business is performing relative to expectations and how companies are considering accelerated underwriting cohorts in the context of VM-20 assumption setting.

Description: The Society of Actuaries (SOA) retained Milliman, Inc. (Milliman) to conduct a survey on the impact of COVID-19 on long-term care (LTC) insurance mortality, voluntary lapse, and morbidity experience. The results of this survey, which was conducted from August 2021 through September 2021, are presented in this report.

Description: This research utilized an interview-based approach that delves into the utilization of alternative data in the Australian life and health insurance markets.

Description: The Society of Actuaries (SOA) Research Institute, LIMRA, Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) and TAI recently released an update to the U.S. Individual Life COVID-19 report series. This report is the third public release from this collaboration and contains the results of an excess mortality analysis for the four quarter of 2020. Data from 31 companies representing approximately 72% of the industry’s face amount inforce have been included in the analyses in this report. A total of 2.9 million death claims from individual life policies from 2015 through December 31, 2020 make up the basis of the analyses.
