Shock lapse, post-level term lapse and mortality have previously been analyzed in SOA PLT studies conducted in 2010 and 2014. This study provides an update of experience and some valuable new insights.

Developed by the Taxation Section, participants will be brought up-to-date on recent Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidance and learn about the newest tax issues related to product design and administration. Legal, IRS and product development experts will provide vital insights into the challenges of developing and administering products within the requirements of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), and allow ample opportunities for networking, questions and information exchange.

The presenters will look at consumer studies, both U.S. and global, that reveal changing behaviors that influence the decision to buy or not buy life insurance. They will look at four demographic and economic categories including Millennials, Generation X, Boomers and the Silent Generation and how these generational groups do or don't differ in their feelings and behaviors around life and health. The presenters will address new growth opportunities for companies that align their value proposition to these changing attitudes. They will explore opportunities around health and wellness to increase policy holder engagement and share insight into generational attitudes around wearables and the sharing of personal data.

Description: On June 17, 2019, the Internal Revenue Service published Final Regulations implementing changes to loss reserve discounting under section 846 of the Internal Revenue Code made by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This note addresses changes made in the Final Regulations, particularly modification of rules for determining the interest rate used for discounting, in response to comments from taxpayers on the proposed regulations.
