Description: There are a variety of regulatory changes that are being contemplated by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) that have the potential to materially impact actuarial, statutory reporting and disclosure requirements relating to reinsurance. This session will provide an introduction to these changes, explaining both the motivation as well as the potential impact these proposed changes may have on US ceding companies. The focus of the presentation will be primarily on changes affecting Asset Adequacy Testing and statutory risk transfer for combination Coinsurance / Yearly Renewable Term agreements. The truth is creating a mortality improvement assumption with tools provided by the SOA, or the Continuous Mortality Investigation (CMI) make the process easy. Leaving you with the Herculean task of deciding if the assumption you created fits your product. Expect to learn about the CMI tool and the SOA's Mortality Improvement Model (MIM) tool, how you might get data to use in those tools, and what assumptions you need to make outside of data like what will the MI be in 20 or 30 years? Whether it is the general population, a segment of the general population, or certain causes of death, you will get very different answers.

Description: The expanded use of predictive models, algorithms and external consumer data has drawn the attention of the life insurance industry to the matter of fairness and bias in underwriting, including proposed regulation in states like Colorado and New York and a draft NAIC Model Bulletin. Description: The session will start by looking at emerging trends in US population mortality improvement focusing especially on recent deviations from the traditional norms influenced by factors such as the prescription drug epidemic, aging populations, improvements in medical technology and socioeconomic differentiation. Explore the recently developed SOA Research Institute tool looking at US life insured mortality experience to see to what extent insights from the population view are present in insured mortality and how to make the best use of the tool. The session will conclude with observations on key points to keep in mind in your own understanding of mortality improvement development as well as engage the audience to gather your perspective.
