Description: Management of a multi-member LLC is governed by statute unless the members agree otherwise. When can you rely on the statutory provisions, and when do you need a separate agreement?

Description: The third age can be viewed as a period between the traditional full-time employment career building period and fulltime retirement and leisure. Individuals combine work, volunteerism and leisure in different ways during this period. Some actuaries look at this period as one during which they might want to start a small consulting business. There is no generally accepted practice at present and maybe none will emerge. This article will look at issues related to the third age from the perspective of actuaries who move from full-time regular employment with an established business into a consulting practice. I will share personal experience in making such a transition.

Description: This study identifies large categories of conditions that long-term care insurance LTCI carriers previously might have avoided because of a lack of data. This study estimates claims, mortality, and lapse rates for several conditions. Many of the conditions are further analyzed into risk categories, some of which would be insurable at standard rates.

Description: In a very general setting this paper describes a straightforward, non-parametric approach to aggregate "stand-alone" or marginal distributions with desired correlations without imposing additional assumptions on those marginals. We then develop two optimizations for the enterprise, one based on maximizing return on economic capital and the other based on a mean -semivariance efficient frontier from the investor point of view.
