Description: This appendix II Report on the Life and Annuity Living Benefits Survey provides supplemental information for the Report on Life and Annuity Living Benefit Riders: Considerations for Insurers and Resinsurers. Appendix A gives a list of 34 participants and Appendix B provides a glossary of terms used in the report. The report utilizes a literature review, company survey, company interviews and/or other methods to catalog a listing of common living benefit riders. Authored by a MIB Solutions team of Tom Rhodes, Stuart Klugman, Marianne Purushotham and Stacy Gill, the report summarizes the results of a study on the application and adoption of credibility theory within the life insurance and annuity industry. In addition to the report, numerical examples related to the application of credibility to company mortality and lapse data are provided in the four Excel files.

Description: The Society of Actuaries (SOA) Research Institute, LIMRA, Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) and TAI recently released an update to the U.S. Individual Life COVID-19 report series. This report is the third public release from this collaboration and contains the results of an excess mortality analysis for the four quarter of 2020. Data from 31 companies representing approximately 72% of the industry’s face amount inforce have been included in the analyses in this report. A total of 2.9 million death claims from individual life policies from 2015 through December 31, 2020 make up the basis of the analyses.

Description: This research report discusses simplified issue underwriting in life insurance. It examines recent developments, characteristics, challenges, current practices, assumptions and data elements.

Description: A literature review was performed on mortality improvement, socioeconomic differences in mortality and their links to specific causes of death, and methods for analysis. It highlighted the fact that socioeconomic status (e.g., income and education) is closely linked to differences in mortality and that the longevity gap between socioeconomic groups is growing over time. It also informed the selection of key variables and the need to view mortality improvement as a complex interaction between specific causes of death.
