Course 7 Frequently Asked Questions

 

Pre–test Confirmation

    I've already submitted my application. When can I expect to receive a confirmation (admission ticket)?

    Please allow 10 working days for your mailed application to arrive. Applications are processed in the order they are received. Pre-test confirmations are first printed two to three months prior to the event.

    Registration confirmations are mailed to both candidates and their supervisors. The candidate confirmation serves as a receipt, contains the candidate number, and lists Instructions to Candidates. Please retain your candidate number to check exam results when they are released. The Supervisors confirmation contains individual candidate information, Instructions to Candidates, and Instructions to Supervisors.

    I misplaced or lost my pre–test confirmation. Can I still sit for the exam?

    If you have misplaced or have not yet received a confirmation by regular mail, please be sure to take identification with you to the exam. Your supervisor will be able to provide you with your candidate number.

  • Seminar Tickets of Admission

    I've already submitted my application. When can I expect to receive an admission ticket?

    Please allow 10 working days for your mailed application to arrive. Applications are processed in the order they are received. Seminar tickets of admission are first printed two to three months prior to the event.

    A ticket of admission will be sent to those candidates who have met all of the Course 7 Seminar prerequisites and who have fully paid the seminar fee.

    **Candidates who apply for a Seminar prior to passing the Pre-test will be put on an Ineligible List until Pre–test grades are released, at which time candidates will be notified of their updated registration status.

    **Candidates who apply while awaiting Spring/Fall exam results will be put on an Ineligible List until grades are released, at which time candidates will be notified of their updated registration status.

    **Candidates using an experience waiver to satisfy the Seminar prerequisites will be put on an Ineligible List until registration close, at which time candidates will be notified of their updated registration status.

  • Candidate Numbers

    I've misplaced my Course 7 Pre–test or Seminar candidate number and want to check if I passed, what can I do?

    If you have lost or misplaced your ticket of admission indicating your candidate number, this information cannot be given over the phone, faxed or e-mailed. You may request your candidate number by e-mail to jcarney@soa.org. Please put "Candidate Number" in the subject line of your e-mail and provide your full name, date of birth and mailing address. Candidate numbers are sent by mail only.

  • Course 7 Seminars

    Did my application make it into the seminar?

    Space in seminars is limited. To find out if your application was successfully registered for a specific seminar you may contact Judy Carney at 847.706.3594

  • Change of Pre-test

    How do I change/cancel my Course 7 Pre–test registration?

    A written request to change Pre–test registration to an alternate date will be accommodated when received no less than two weeks prior to the administration of the registered Pre–test. Please include your full name, birth date, and the date and supervisor information for the desired pre–test. Written notification should be e–mailed to Judy Carney and to your current and future pre–test supervisors.

    Course 7 Pre–test applicants may cancel Pre–test registration in writing no less than two weeks prior to the administration of the Pre–test. The SOA will refund the registration fee, minus a cancellation fee of $60 (U.S.). No refunds will be considered for Course 7 Pre–test applicants who fail to send a written cancellation request and simply do not write the Pre–test. Written notification should be e–mailed to Judy Carney jcarney@soa.org and to your current pre–test supervisors

  • Change of Seminar

    How do I change/cancel my Course 7 Seminar registration?

    A written request to change Course 7 registration to an alternate date or location will be accommodated when possible, and a fee of $100 (U.S.) will be assessed when received prior to the registration deadline; $200 when received after the registration deadline. Written notification should be e–mailed to Judy Carney.

    A candidate who submits an application for a Course 7 Seminar but is unable to attend that Seminar may submit a written request for a refund. The Society of Actuaries will refund the registration fee, minus a cancellation fee of $200 (U.S.). No refunds will be considered for Course 7 Seminar applicants who fail to send a written cancellation request and simply do not attend the Seminar. Written notification should be e–mailed to Judy Carney.

  • Seminar Travel Arrangements

    When does the seminar end? Should I make flight reservations for Thursday night?

    The Seminar will run from approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday to 7:00 p.m. Thursday. The majority of candidates use the entire 10 hours provided on Thursday to write their final reports. Arrangements have been made for candidates to have an area to complete the project assignment should they decide to check out of their hotel rooms Thursday morning. Attire is business casual.

  • Laptops for Course 7 Seminars

    What are the laptop requirements for the seminar?

    All candidates are required to bring a laptop computer to the seminar and will be responsible for the proper operation of the laptop during the seminar. Current requirements and configurations can be found on the SOA website.

  • Transcripts

    How do I obtain an official transcript?

    You may request an official transcript indicating your examination credit by e–mailing exams@soa.org. Please put "Transcript" in the subject line of your e–mail. Please confirm your full name, date of birth and mailing address. You may also contact the Exam Department directly at 847.706.3583. Transcript information will not be given over the phone, faxed or e–mailed.

  • Special Arrangements for Candidates With Disabilities

    Whom should I contact?

    To request special accommodations for a Course 7 pre–test or seminar, a candidate must submit a written request and medical documentation by the registration deadline.
