PIMA introduced the Product & Process Innovative Marketing Award (P2IMA), which the Society of Actuaries co–sponsors, in 2005 to showcase new product development and improved or innovative marketing processes. The first contest received three entries and because each entry was unique, each was recognized with an award.

A subcommittee of Ed Ruth from Marsh, Roger Huseland from Prudential Financial, and Todd Ruopp from ARAG North America – agreed to review the award and to consider developing a clearer purpose for it. As part of their review, the subcommittee questioned whether this award might more appropriately fit as a category under the Marketing Methods Competition, which itself is being reviewed for potential changes in 2007.
