Explore key findings of an SOA-funded research paper on telehealth that will be published in 2023. The COVID-19 pandemic initially caused some health care delivery to shift away from in-person transactions to a more digital form of transactions, including telehealth, e-mails, remote patient monitoring and other forms of communication. Depending upon the sustained magnitude of the shift, post early pandemic, this shift may cause numerous effects and counter-effects both in the cost and quality of care as well as long-term outcomes for patient health. This research is designed to provide actuaries and others with insights from two different perspectives: literature review and quantitative analysis. It analyzes current and historic data and literature to provide directional insights as to what role telehealth may play in the future of health care delivery based on its successes and challenges to date.
