Join us in exploring the ways that actuaries have been donating their time to directly address important societal purposes and asking whether we should be working towards developing a more robust tradition of volunteering like the legal profession's pro bono tradition.Participate in these segments of the session:•Listen in on a conversation with actuaries who are doing or have done pro bono actuarial work, including people who have volunteered through the Actuarial Foundation. •Review a description of how pro bono works in the legal profession. •Hear a discussion of ways that actuaries like you could do pro bono work.•Get an overview on how Precepts in the Code of Conduct apply:•How should actuaries (Precept 13) “perform Actuarial Services with courtesy and professional respect, and cooperate with others in the Principal’s interest”?•How does this work further the Precept 1 concept of “upholding the reputation of the actuarial profession”?•How do Standards of Practice apply to pro bono work performed by actuaries?•Help us determine whether we should proceed to build up this aspect of the actuarial profession working together and/or individually and identify of potential next steps. This session will help you learn how actuaries can personally contribute to societal purposes, and we will provide you with a number of leads for furthering your own volunteering.
