2020 Data Visualization Contest

Contest Results

Here are the results of the 2020 Data Visualization contest sponsored by the Actuarial Innovation and Technology Steering Committee of the Society of Actuaries. The contest was open from 12/11/2020 to 01/15/2021.

Designing the winning submissions was challenging for the jurors as the entries displayed different strengths.  We saw excellent examples of aesthetically appealing visualizations, effective use of visualization tools, and deep actuarial analysis.  Does the ideal data visualization report exist, as a combination of the insight from a first, aesthetic from a second and graph scheme from a third?  This exercise showed us that a team effort is likely to produce the best results, combining the expertise of visualization and analysis.

The winners and their submissions are listed below:

The SOA really appreciates all those who participated in this contest and offers their sincere congratulations on the winning submissions.
