Society of Actuaries Announces University-Earned Credit Status to Actuarial Programs at Purdue University and Robert Morris University
September 4, 2024, Chicago, IL – The Society of Actuaries (SOA) has recognized the actuarial programs at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, and Robert Morris University, Moon Township, PA, as University-Earned Credit (UEC) Centers of Actuarial Excellence (CAE).
With the addition of Purdue University and Robert Morris University, 22 CAE programs at universities worldwide are approved to offer UEC, including in the U.S., Australia, Canada, and Hong Kong. Students must attain a required score on coursework to earn credit toward an SOA exam. This program offers courses that help students progress toward earning the Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation, based on their strong performance in university courses.
“The addition of these two university actuarial programs, Purdue and Robert Morris, helps us extend UEC opportunities to even more students,” said Greg Heidrich, SOA Chief Executive Officer. “The SOA congratulates these university actuarial programs on their achievements, and we are grateful for their commitment to actuarial education.”
The UEC program is one of several important programs aimed at supporting the SOA’s strategic efforts to grow the actuarial profession and prepare actuaries to be business leaders who leverage data, technology and judgment to create responsible risk solutions. The SOA also offers the UEC Diversity Extension (UEC DE) program for select colleges and universities serving high concentrations of students underrepresented in the profession, with a focus on providing opportunities for African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, and Native North American and Indigenous students. The program uses the course/exam evaluation structure created for the UEC CAE program to ensure education and assessment standards are met. Learn more about the SOA’s UEC program.
