The report, authored by Cathy Ho and Steve Elek, presents the results of a study of individual disability income (“IDI”) lapse experience in the United States between observation years 2000 and 2007. This is the first report in a two-part series that will present results of a study conducted jointly by LIMRA and the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and based on data provided by 12 individual disability income insurance writers.

Description: Bob Howard, a former member of RPEC, developed a spreadsheet-based program that allows users to create a customized mortality improvement scale using the RPEC_2014 model. The RPEC_2014_v2017 model found here is a new version of the tool updated by the SOA and RPEC to reflect historical U.S. mortality experience through 2015. The tool can be used to model different assumption sets while utilizing the same methodology underpinning the development of Scale MP-2017.

Description: The 2008 Philippines experience study includes both mortality and persistency studies of policies in force any time during the 2004-2006 study period. The study applies to the entire portfolios of the 19 contributing companies and these companies represent the entire Philippines individual life insurance market. Studies were performed based upon policy counts. Actual mortality was compared to expected mortality based upon the SOA 1975-80 select and ultimate mortality table.

Description: The Society of Actuaries (SOA) retained Milliman, Inc. (Milliman) to conduct a survey on the impact of COVID-19 on Long-Term Care (LTC) insurance mortality, voluntary lapse, and morbidity experience. The results of this survey, which was conducted from November 2020 through January 2021, are presented in this report.

The database includes more than 171,000 claims of $25,000 or more, representing over $10 billion in total charges.
