As large quantities of available data are no longer owned by insurance companies and statistical techniques become more accessible to non-statisticians, the pressure to keep up with technological advancement increases. Life actuaries must think critically about and be prepared for the coming changes and position themselves as leaders in an industry lagging behind in new technology adoption.

Description: This is the third report in a series on the current state and future opportunity of the retirement market in China. In this report, edition three of the series, you will learn about the increased longevity in China. Almost one third of those surveyed anticipate living to age 90 or older. As a result, China has a significant need for retirement planning. Educating consumers on their retirement options is key and it was found that 88% of those surveyed have engaged in at least one type of retirement planning activity.

Description: Presented at Living to 100 symposium, January 2002. This paper proposes a standard operating procedure for testing the Gompertz assumption using yearly age-specific mortality data, and the impacts of the data collection period and population sizes on the testing results are discussed.

Description: We propose an age-shift model to modify the LC model and deal with the problem of parameters. The proposed method attains smaller estimation errors with respect to mean absolute percentage error or mean square error. We also apply the proposed age-shift model to the mortality rates of these four countries to evaluate the longevity risk in annuity products by measuring life expectancy.
