Description: This report, from the Society of Actuaries [SOA] ‘Experience Studies – Group Life,’ was prepared by the SOA Group Life Insurance Experience Committee. There were several compelling reasons to develop a new experience study and table, not the least of which was that 35 years is a long interval for any study, and the committee wanted the new table to represent a broad cross–section of the industry. Data was solicited from nearly every group life carrier twenty–four companies contributed, but the Committee had to exclude data from six for various reasons. In addition to the report there is a four page data requirements document and two excel workbooks.

Description: This report, from the Society of Actuaries [SOA] ‘Experience Studies – Individual Annuities,’ and prepared by the Payout Annuity Mortality Study Working Group of the Individual Annuity Experience Committee of the SOA, is an experience study of individual payout annuities, covering calendar years 2000 through 2004. The intent of this study is to provide recent annuitant mortality experience which can be compared to the Annuity 2000 Mortality Table, and provide a basis for a possible revision to that table. The study includes immediate annuities, annuitizations, and life settlement options of life insurance and annuity death claims. The report includes two Excel workbooks.

Description: This report, part of the Society of Actuaries [SOA] ‘Experience Studies – Business Practice Surveys,’ presents the results of the survey conducted by the SOA Committee on Life Insurance Mortality and Underwriting Surveys - Preferred Underwriting Survey Subcommittee. This survey asked for preferred risk underwriting practices as of July 2002. This is the third such survey completed by the Society of Actuaries. The intent of this survey was to gather information on the many variations in preferred risk underwriting.

CLICE has developed and conducted inter-company expense experience studies annually since 2001. This report documents the results of the Committee’s fourth expense study.

Description: The Society of Actuaries (“SOA”) Health Section engaged Milliman, Inc. to conduct a study of group long-term disability (“LTD”) benefit offsets, which Milliman first performed for the SOA in 2008 and reported in July 2009. As with the earlier study, the 2012 Study investigates the percentages of LTD claimants who are receiving disability benefits from sources that offset their LTD benefits, the level of these offset benefits relative to pre-disability earned income and how they are affected by the duration of disablement, age at disablement, gender, industry, state of residence and medical conditions causing the disability. In addition, the 2012 Study investigates the distribution of Social Security approval dates by duration of disablement.

This report guides actuaries and others about change risk management practices to prevent future financial failures. The paper seeks to examine what factors account for the differences in the United States, compared with Canada about the underlying causes and effects of the most recent crisis with financial institutions.
