In order to maximize their impact, however, actuaries must pair strong technical skills with excellent communication skills. As their careers advance, the actuary's audience continues to broaden to include non-actuarial professionals from a variety of disciplines, senior executives, and customers. They must learn to communicate effectively with any audience that they are faced with. They must be able to make a compelling case for their point-of-view in a simple and succinct fashion. This highly interactive workshop is designed for actuaries at various levels to learn how to improve their communication skills by actively participating via polling and open forums.

Description: This session will examine bias from a social science perspective. It will discuss the three types of systemic biases using the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) model. The NIST model details the three types as historical bias, societal bias, and institutionalbias. The session will also provide several examples of each type to provide a framework for identifying the social structure of bias.

Description: How can we maintain our sanity while staring at the same screen all day, clicking into and bouncing out of meetings? To be successful in today's (remote) world, we must learn how to relate to individuals virtually. Topics include: How can we best establish a professional and dynamic presence while working remotely? How can we develop rapport with our virtual colleagues as well as with those working in the office? What is considered to be appropriate etiquette when interacting with a co-worker via a computer screen? How can we effectively collaborate while working from home? What is the best way to present to senior management without the ability to be in the room to read their body language?
