In this fourth issue of International News of 2022, we feature the following contributions:

  • Mary Pat Campbell, FSA, MAAA, offers an amusing analogy between the evolution of interest rates and the Japanese sport of sumo.
  • José Luis Gómez, a Colombian-based consultant, and retired actuary Jamie McFadden, FSA, write about actuarial involvement in the assessment of financial reporting for non-profit organizations in Colombia.
  • Idelia Hoberg, FIA, in collaboration with Jaco Louw and Ernst Landsberg, offer a fresh perspective of the impact of Covid-19 in the South African life insurance industry, the largest insurance market in Africa.

In other news, the section council, in partnership with Social Insurance and Public Finance section, published a request-for-proposal to develop a guide to paid family and medical leave.

Also, a motion to sponsor the Actuarial Research Conference 2022, to be held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was approved by the council.

As always, we are looking to recruit volunteers for our international activities, and we are also contemplating introducing micro-volunteering tasks, where a modest amount of time can be invested in specific tasks. Should you be interested in micro-volunteering, please contact me at ca@ArochaAndAssociates.ch.
