Welcome to the July 2023 issue of International News. Two events were hosted by the International Section recently:

  • The International Section co-hosted an SOA networking reception at the International Congress of Actuaries (ICA) in Sydney, Australia in May. Attendees enjoyed food and drink and connected with the wide range of SOA researchers and presenters attending the conference, including SOA President, John Robinson. John has been a Friend of the International Section Council for many years and has volunteered in various activities to benefit our section.
  • The section also hosted a webcast in June, “COVID-19 Experience in U.S. and U.K. Population and Long Term Organ Impairments in COVID 19” to discuss life after COVID pandemics were lifted.

If you participated in those events, we welcome your feedback.

We recently collaborated with the Social Insurance & Public Finance (SIPF) section to complete a study related to Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) within and outside the U.S. The report can be viewed via the SOA International Section website. A webcast will be held to discuss our findings jointly with the author and the SIPF Section.

The 2023 Section Election period will run from September 6–27. See the Section Elections page on SOA.org for more information. If you are interested in volunteering right away, you can join us as a friend to make your contributions to our section.
