Chairperson’s Corner

As I complete my term as the International Section Council chairperson, I want to thank you for your support thus far in 2023. I would also like to congratulate Yuan Yuan and Jonathan Bondy, the incoming chairperson and vice chairperson who started their term following the 2023 ImpACT meeting last month along with the new council members:

This year, we collaborated with the SOA Research Institute and the Social Insurance & Public Finance Section to complete the research report “Guide to Domestic and International Paid Family and Medical Leave Programs.” This report compares international and domestic mandated paid family and medical leave programs. The International Section also worked with the Entrepreneurial & Innovation Section and Leadership & Development Section on various projects and recommending young actuaries who are working on building insurance businesses outside the US and Canada such as insurtech, etc.

Based on the great feedback we received from the webcast on Bermuda regulations in March, the International Section will continue the focus on the solvency standards discussions from other jurisdictions along with the COVID impact on the economy and product and distribution innovation across the globe.

In 2023, we have met many of you at the SOA meetings, webcasts, and other SOA events. We appreciate and count on your volunteerism. Please keep in touch with SOA staff or the council members if you would like to help and please consider becoming a Friend of the section. The section is stronger and more successful with your help. We look forward to seeing your contributions in 2024.
