How do socioeconomic factors influence mortality outcomes—and what does this mean for actuaries? Join the Society of Actuaries for a 75-minute webcast presenting new research on U.S. mortality patterns by Socioeconomic Index Score (SIS). This study extends lifetable and cause-specific mortality analysis through 2023, capturing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and documenting variations across socioeconomic categories.
The presentation will examine trends in life expectancy at birth and at age 65, shifts in cause-specific mortality, and differences observed across deciles of the SIS. Particular attention will be given to the role of cardiovascular disease, cancer, external causes, substance use, and COVID-19 in shaping these patterns. Actuaries will gain research-based insights to support pricing and risk management decisions, enhance mortality improvement models, and strengthen understanding of long-term demographic trends.
The webcast will also provide broader perspective on how socioeconomic factors contribute to population-level mortality outcomes and how these dynamics have evolved over the past four decades.
