2019 Board Member Candidate
William B. Fornia, FSA 1986, MAAA, EA, FCA
President
Pension Trustee Advisors
Greenwood Village, CO
Election Message:
I’ve had a terrific career as an actuary working for great companies and on my own. I’ve met hundreds of actuaries from the US and around the world. The caliber of those in our profession is outstanding and I want to continue to give back significantly to an exceptional collection of professionals.
I’ve been on the board for three years and want to keep up the momentum of working with a great team and solid, important organization. I’m currently chair of the board’s International Committee and understand the critical importance of our growing presence outside of US and Canada, where more than 20% of our members and candidates reside and practice. Another key area where I’ve contributed is in focusing on the future of the actuarial profession and opportunities for actuaries. Our profession has changed tremendously in my forty years, and is sure to change even more in the next decade. Artificial Intelligence, for example, is a threat and an opportunity for us. We need to get it right to maintain and enhance the value of our profession.
Brief description of current work:
I consult on US state and local government pensions. My clients range from the largest (over $100 billion) and smallest (under $1 million) plans, to the states and cities which sponsor the plans, to unions representing the workers in those plans, and the banks and insurers who lost billions in the Detroit and Stockton bankruptcies. I do a considerable amount of expert witness work including testifying in court, and to US state legislatures.
Primary Area(s) of Practice:
Retirement
