2019 Board Member Candidate
Lisa Kuklinski, FSA 1995, MAAA
Actuarial Consultant
Ernst & Young
New York, NY
Election Message:
I would be so proud and excited to serve the actuarial community on the SOA Board of Directors.
My professional experience, combined with my actuarial volunteer work, gives me the background needed to be an effective Board member at this crucial time. I have been an actuary for over 25 years in both industry and consulting, and in the US and internationally. Ever since attaining my FSA, I have served as an energetic and committed SOA volunteer.
I strongly believe that the SOA is the premier actuarial association worldwide. Right now, the SOA is at point of inflection. Members and candidates have been growing outside the US and Canada and must be well-served. With advances in data science, technology and automation, the nature of our work is changing. I have participated in these changes firsthand. The next decade will be critical for the SOA and for the profession.
My goal is to support actuaries in the US, Canada, and around the world to seize these new opportunities. As a Board member, I would bring my strategic focus, financial acumen and listening skills to the table.
Brief description of current work:
Consulting services on topics ranging from global mergers and acquisitions to GAAP accounting to actuarial transformation
Primary Area(s) of Practice:
Life and Annuities
Bio:
I have over 25 years of experience working as an actuary, in both technical and leadership roles, and in both an insurance company and a consulting practice.
I joined Ernst & Young (EY) in 2018 and am currently an actuarial consultant in the Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services practice.
Prior to EY, I worked at MetLife and served in a variety of roles including:
- Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of MetLife’s US and Latin America region
- CFO of MetLife’s U.S. Retail segment
- Head of Annuity Pricing and Product Development
Earlier in my career, I lived in Mexico City for two years on an expatriate assignment, where I served as CFO of MetLife’s start-up pension company and as Chief Actuary of MetLife’s Mexican subsidiary. I am fluent in Spanish.
I have been an active volunteer in the actuarial profession. For the SOA, I currently have the privilege of serving as chairperson of the Latin America Committee and being part of the International Committee. As part of this work, I recently visited the Philippines and Vietnam, to see how the actuarial profession is developing and how the SOA can best serve these markets. Through the American Academy of Actuaries, I currently serve on the Actuarial Standards Board Life Committee.
I graduated from Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Mathematics.
Additional Info:
I am a native New Yorker and live in Manhattan with my husband and two teenage boys.
I love being an actuary because hard work and creativity are rewarded in this field. As a first-generation American and the first to attend college in my family, actuarial exams provided me with a pathway to becoming a respected professional. Because of my background, I will be focused on increasing the pipeline for diverse candidates.
Thank you for viewing my page and for your consideration. I would be very honored by your vote.
