2019 Board Member Candidate

Brian L. Louth, FSA 1989, FCIA
Senior Vice President Business Development and Chief Marketing Officer
RGA Life Reinsurance Company of Canada
Toronto Ontario, Canada
Election Message:
I am excited about the opportunity to support the future of the actuarial profession as a member of the SOA Board. In particular, I would like to encourage a growing collaborative mindset with other actuarial organizations on a global basis and to advance the education and development of actuaries. The SOA can lead by example.
My work experience has helped me understand that success comes from our ability to leverage the collective expertise of associates from across our local and global offices. Creative, innovative and effective solutions to increasingly complex business challenges come from bringing a breadth of knowledge and perspective to problems. My personal belief is that collaboration is essential. No one individual or team has all the answers. At RGA, we listen to our clients, assess their needs, and then work with members of the local and global RGA offices and client teams to deliver the right business solution. We build strong relationships with our clients, across our company, and with members of the industry and profession, leading to the kind of collaboration essential to solving challenging issues. This is how I approach my responsibilities both at RGA and in my volunteer efforts, and it is how I will commit to contribute as a member of the SOA Board.
Shaping the education focus of the SOA to continually grow the relevance and value of actuaries is critical to the profession’s support of the evolving needs of key stakeholders. My perspective on the future of education has been shaped by my past experience on professional committees and through relationships and connections I have built with other actuaries. My long history of involvement with the SOA Education and Examination Committees, combined with the leadership skills, business knowledge and expertise developed over my 35 years in the insurance industry, equip me well to effectively contribute to the future direction of the SOA. My Canadian perspective also broadens the discussion.
I believe that my perspective and experience will positively contribute to the future growth and success of the SOA.
