Election Message:
I am proud to be an actuary, and serving on the Board of the SOA for the past three years has been among the highlights of my professional career. In my time on the Board, we have worked diligently to advance the mission of the SOA, to execute the key pillars of the 5-year Strategic Plan, and to respond to rapidly emerging opportunities and threats facing the actuarial profession. Most importantly, I have had the great fortune of working with a terrific group of dedicated volunteers and staff members who share my passion, enthusiasm, and optimism.
If I am elected to a second term, I will continue to serve as a champion for the profession, with a particular focus on the following:
- SOA Research. The SOA is in a unique position with the resources, capabilities, and connections to drive a robust research agenda that meets the needs of all of our stakeholders. We must continue to focus on our areas of expertise and promote and expand our brand as a trusted, independent, data-driven content provider in these areas.
- Long-term growth of the profession. Actuarial skills have been the backbone of the insurance industry for decades, but with the rise of data science, artificial intelligence, InsurTech, and other emerging technologies, our sustained relevance is at risk. My work on the Long-Term Growth Strategy Task Force and the InsurTech Task Force have reinforced both my conviction that we must move quickly to respond to these threats as well as my optimism that the SOA has what it takes to forge a strategy that will sustain our prominence for decades to come.
- Diversity and Inclusion. STEM carriers including the actuarial profession have lagged far behind in creating opportunities to bring new voices and perspectives into the conversation. While the SOA has had many notable efforts to help move the needle in this area, much more has to be done.
