2022 Board Member Candidate
Kelly Rabin, FSA 2006, MAAA 2006, CFA 2011
Hannover Re
Vice President & Actuary
Orlando, FL (I work out of my home in Issaquah, WA )
Election Message:
I am running for the SOA Board because I want future actuaries to have the same opportunities I have had. I want to help our profession attract the best candidates possible. To quote the SOA Strategic Plan, actuaries “drive solutions to life’s financial risks.” There is purpose and honor there. We can do a better job helping society understand the value we bring and what unique skills actuaries bring to the table vs. other STEM professionals.
Once someone is a member, the SOA needs to offer compelling value for the price paid. Most SOA members see the SOA as an organization to transact with, not an organization to be a part of. We need to continue with our efforts to build community and provide more ways for our members to interact and become stronger and better. Continuing education and research will remain important offerings for the SOA. These efforts make heavy use of volunteers but can also be costly to access. The SOA should continue to refine its operating model with the goal of optimizing how it serves its members. This includes doing market research about what members want.
I am excited about the opportunity to serve the SOA at the next level. Given my deep knowledge of the organization acquired through 15+ years of volunteering, executive experience, and prior non-profit board experience, I truly believe I am the right person to help lead the organization forward at this time. I welcome the opportunity to discuss any and all issues with you. I hope to earn your vote!
