Message One
I am honored to be one of the endorsed candidates for the upcoming election. Having been involved in various capacities within the SOA, including serving as a section chair, participating in the exam committee, and chairing a board committee, I am committed to shaping the future of our organization.
I also extend my congratulations to all the candidates who have volunteered their time for this process. Your willingness to contribute is commendable, and I encourage every voting member to cast their votes. Every vote is important to all of us.
As actuaries, we face rapid technological advancements and the urgent challenge of climate change. Embracing technology, especially AI, is essential to keeping our practice relevant. Let us commit ourselves to being part of the solution in mitigating climate.
To strengthen our actuarial practices,
- We must continually review and enhance the examination curriculum to prepare the next generation of actuaries effectively. High-quality educational materials are crucial for sharpening our skills and ensuring excellence in our work.
- We should continue enhancing SOA’s recognition to attract top talent along with our affiliate membership program and international expansion program.
- Let’s embrace technological changes, making AI our ally. I’ve witnessed actuaries using advanced data analytics and AI at recent Insurtech events, and we should leverage these tools to make our job more effective.
- We have a responsibility to address societal topics such as ESG (environmental, social, and governance), DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), healthcare equity, financial security protection, and climate change mitigation.
Thank you for considering my candidacy. Together, we can build upon the foundation laid by our fellow actuaries before us and create a better future for the SOA.
Message Two
I am Jon Zeu Wu, FSA, MAAA, CERA. I have been instrumental in expanding my company’s market reach from North America into Latin America, as well as Japan, South Korea, Greater China, Southeast Asia, and India. I have greatly valued learning about different cultures and various insurance markets. I am confident that I can help expand the SOA’s reach to more regions and address issues of significant global importance.
In one of my video messages, I spoke about growing our membership. I will work tirelessly with board members to review the sources of our candidate base and human talent needs, ensuring that the talent supply meets market demand. I am committed to exploring new areas where actuaries can make a significant impact and expand our market base – especially in technology, building sustainability, and serving geographic regions with less insurance reach.
I will advocate for the actuarial examination syllabus and materials to be continually reviewed to ensure that students passing these exams possess the most up-to-date and relevant knowledge. In addition, I will make sure we continue to integrate the study results from our Research Institute and topics covered by various SOA meetings to develop a robust Professional Development Curriculum & Content Creation team (of which I am a proud volunteer). This professional development initiative will empower our fellow actuaries to grow expertise in their current fields, broaden their knowledge in other disciplines, and advance in their career paths. By staying at the forefront of multi-industry developments, we can ensure that our members are well-equipped to tackle the evolving challenges of the actuarial field.
My career journey to this point has been fueled by my curiosity, willingness to ask questions, eagerness to learn new things, and unwavering commitment to building trust with and among my teams. I will bring this same passion and dedication to working with the SOA board members. My ongoing involvement and learning with the SOA helps keep me informed about what is needed to advance our profession.
Thank you for taking the time to read my candidate statements. I am counting on your support and your vote. For further information, please read my statements on the candidate page and watch my video recording. Your voices and contributions as fellow members are crucial to advancing this work. Together, we can shape the future of the SOA and transform it into a sustainable and thriving organization.
