Description: The purpose of this survey is to gather a high-level view of U.S. Group Term Life Insurance mortality results during the COVID-19 pandemic, as compared to prior period baseline mortality results. The datasets for this report encompass all Group Term Life claims reported to participating carriers as of August 31, 2020. The Committee is grateful that 20 of the top 21 U.S. Group Term Life insurers are participating in this survey, with market share representing roughly 90% of the industry.

Description: This paper, part of the Society of Actuaries [SOA} ‘Research Projects – Finance/Investment,’ is presented by the SOA’s Committee on Finance Research. This research project, jointly sponsored by the SOA and the Casualty Actuarial Society [CAS], explores economic series and provides an Excel-based tool for generating future economic scenarios. In addition to the paper, which includes an excel workbook containing results of model simulations, there are the following appendices - Appendix A, a 26 page ‘user’s guide,’ Appendix B, a 91 page document entitled ‘Presentations of This Research,’ Appendix C, a zipped file containing hundreds of scenarios i.e., simulation paths of financial and economic variables, generated as output from the Financial Scenario Model, and Appendix D, the model itself in an Excel workbook.

Description: This web page contains links to the results of a literature search that explores pre-retirement influences on attitudes and decisions regarding retirement. The research study, conducted by Linda Smith Brothers, reviews sixty papers written since 1990, and summarizes their important points under seven topic areas. The seven topics addressed are: retirement trends, influences on the retirement decision, participation decisions, effects of employer–sponsored pension plans, effects of health, effects of stock, and effects of pension plans on employee attitudes and behaviors. An Excel workbook contains detailed reviews of the sources that were searched in the course of the study.
