The Society of Actuaries Research Institute developed the Annuity Factor Calculator to calculate an annuity factor using user-selected annuity forms, mortality tables and projection scales commonly used for defined benefit pension plans in the United States or Canada. This tool is designed to calculate relatively simple annuity factors for users who are accustomed to making actuarial calculations for defined benefit pension plans in the United States or Canada. - Calibrating Stochastic Interest Rate Models
- This paper introduces practitioners to the selection and calibration of stochastic interest rate models. Six continuous time interest rate models and their calibration are presented. Actual code and data examples are added to help the practitioner implement them. The emphasis is on hands-on calibration with RStudio. The reader is assumed to have a working knowledge of RStudio, including writing R scripts.

In health insurance marketplaces, prospective insured individuals and groups are able to choose from a range of available plans. This study uses health care encounter data to simulate the choices faced by health insurance shoppers under a variety of conditions and measures the simulated effect of increased consumer choice and consumer information on medical loss ratios and, as a consequence, insurer profitability. - Experience Study Calculations Educational Tool
The Society of Actuaries’ Exposure Calculations Project Oversight Group has completed its paper, which presents and explains the methods for determining rates based on experience, such as mortality and claim utilization rates. -
Getzen Model of Long-Run Medical Cost Trends
The Getzen Model is a long-term medical cost trend projection model based on 30+ years of observation. - Health Care Cost Model (2022)
The Society of Actuaries (SOA) created the SOA 2022 Health Care Cost Model (model) to enable users to estimate future U.S. health care insurance costs. This model allows a user to consider a variety of scenarios and create inputs that can forecast the impact on the health care service system. The model will be updated periodically to reflect the latest data on both the outbreak and insurance health care costs. A user guide, user training video and model documentation guide have also been developed to support the model. - Health Plan Provider Network Risk
The Health Section Research Team is pleased to make available the following research study and Excel model that provide a framework for estimating the financial impact of health plan provider network risk. - 2012 Individual Annuity Reserving Report & Table
The SOA’s Payout Annuity Table Team (Team), as requested by the NAIC’s Life Actuarial Task Force (LATF), produced a new annuity valuation mortality table, including the projection scales and margins necessary to make the table suitable for standard valuation purposes for individual annuities. - International Longevity Illustrator
The SOA Research Institute has launched the International Longevity Illustrator, a free tool to help people in Singapore, Hong Kong and Canada estimate their longevity so they can plan a secure retirement. - Kidney Disease (Chronic) - A Two-Part Model of the Individual Costs
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) affects many lives and has a large impact on health systems around the world. To better understand and predict costs for insurance plan members with CKD in the United States, we built a new model of their individual costs. Our model is the first to explicitly model both the CKD stage transition process and the distribution of costs given those stages. - Longevity Illustrator
Developed by the American Academy of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries Research Institute, the Longevity Illustrator is designed to provide you with perspectives on your longevity risk—the uncertainty of how long you and your spouse/partner might live. - Medical Long-Term Cost Trend Projections (Getzen)
The Model is a long-term medical cost trend projection based on 30+ years of observation. - Medicaid Managed Care Underwriting Margin Model
This report and the accompanying Excel model are intended to be used in their entirety by qualified actuaries setting rates or evaluating rates for Medicaid Managed Care programs to develop the underwriting margin component of the capitation rates. - Medicaid Programs (State)– Modeling the Impact of the Great Unwinding
