In Memory of Danny Miller

May 4, 2022

Danny Miller, FSA 1999, MAAA 1990, passed away on February 21, 2022 at home in Brooklyn Park, Minn. Danny was 63. He was “our rock” and desperately loved his family. Danny was born November 12, 1958 in Duluth and that is where he grew up. He became a born-again Christian at age 14 when he came to Christ at a youth retreat at Haven Evangelical Church in Duluth. After he graduated from college at St. Scholastica, he started his first job as an actuary at Midland National Life in Sioux Falls, SD. There he met Dawn and they were married in 1984. Through the years he worked for ITT/Hartford, Fortis Financial, ING/VOYA, CUNA Mutual, and Global Atlantic in the Twin Cities area.

Hockey was tradition and community for Danny. He started playing as a young boy with his siblings and all the way through his life, including with his son and many friends. Danny taught his kids how to play and coached many of their teams. He greatly enjoyed watching all hockey, especially the Gophers, and annually attended the Frozen Four with his family.

Danny loved slowing down and enjoying nature, especially at the cabin. Taking in sunsets by the campfire with friends, going for a walk or bike ride, or floating on the lake in a kayak were perfect ways to enjoy God's creation. Danny was a connector in his community, bringing friends and family together for fun and fellowship. During his young adult years, he organized canoe and camping trips as well as trips to North Stars hockey games. In recent years Danny regularly brought his theatre crew together for plays and camaraderie.

Danny is survived by his wife, Dawn; his children, Kimberly, Ashley, and Gregory; parents, Kenneth and Harriet Miller; siblings, David (Judy) Miller, and Kathy (Kevin) Miller; sister-in-law, Lorrie Miller; mother-in-law, Glenda Garbers; brothers-in-law, Leon Garbers, Virgil (Marlys) Garbers, Paul (Cindy) Garbers, Dale (Brenda) Garbers, and Byron (Tanya) Garbers; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by brother Jeffery Miller and father-in-law, Erwin Garbers.

Memorials in Danny's name preferred to Baptist World Mission, P.O. Box 2149, Decatur, AL 35602 (please write the check payable to Baptist World Mission and write “Bernard Dodeler” in the memo) or your favorite charity.
