In Memory of Steven C. Chamberlin

June 13, 2024

Steven C. Chamberlin, FSA 1992, MAAA 1989, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away from cancer on March 29, 2024 at age 62.

Steve is the son of Gene and Margy Chamberlin, born on October 5, 1961, in Canton, South Dakota. The family moved to Mobridge, SD, in 1964. Steve attended grades K-12 in the Mobridge school district, graduating from MHS in 1980. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota. Steve was employed by Transamerica and later formed his own company, working as an actuary. Steve was also a long-time volunteer with the State of Iowa’s SHIIP program.

On November 9, 1991, Steve was united in marriage to Mary (Rausch) Chamberlin in Des Moines, Iowa. They spent the last 27 years living in Cedar Rapids. Together, they loved to travel. Steve visited all 50 states over the course of his life. He and Mary also enjoyed exploring many national parks. In the last few years, they bicycled on many of Iowa’s trails, and Steve was proud that he could “bike his age” on recent birthdays (biking a mile for every year).

Survivors include his wife, Mary Chamberlin; sister Cathy (Doug) Engstrom of Johnston, Iowa; brother-in-law John (Carla) Rausch of Waucoma, Iowa; niece Sarah Engstrom of West Des Moines, Iowa; nephew Jason (Jessica) Rausch; great niece Madison; and great nephew Colton, all of Gretna, Nebraska. Preceding in death are his parents.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
