Eligibility Requirements for Academic Benefits

Definitions of eligibility:

  • Full-time Academic Member–SOA members who are employed by a college or university who are considered to be full-time members of the regular faculty by their employer.
  • Full-time Faculty–Individuals employed by a college or university who are considered to be full-time members of the regular faculty by their employer.
  • Full-time Faculty (CAE)–Individuals employed by a college or university designated by the SOA to be a Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) who are considered to be full-time members of the regular faculty in the actuarial science program.
  • SOA James C. Hickman Scholar–Individuals who have been awarded the SOA Hickman Scholar doctoral stipend, are actively pursuing the proposed doctorate and who remain eligible under guidelines of the SOA Hickman Scholar program.
  • Credentialed Ph.D. Candidate–Individuals who are enrolled full-time in a doctoral program in actuarial science or a related field in the United States or Canada; and who hold an actuarial credential with an accrediting actuarial organization (i.e., CAS, CIA, FA, IA, IAA, SOA).
