Background

An increase in minimum temperatures may result in insect-borne diseases becoming more prevalent in geographic areas that have not been impacted by these diseases in recent history. The shift or potential shift of the geographic coverage area of these diseases is important for any discipline concerned with monitoring and/or predicting health and/or mortality trends to understand

Research Objective and Deliverables

  • Explore and identify the top 3 insect borne diseases that are currently confined to warmer climates
  • Assess the historical shift in geographic coverage areas of these diseases over the past 20 years and determine the factors that correlate with the shift
  • Develop a model to project the potential for additional shift in geographic coverage area over the next 10 years and the impact on morbidity and mortality rates.

  • Deliverable: A report summarizing results and methodology and the resultant projection model
  • Method: survey existing insect borne diseases, analyze data and project results
