Dive In Festival Session Recording Available
The 2020 Dive In Festival was the biggest one yet, with more than 30,000 people attending the global celebration of diversity and inclusion in the insurance industry. The Festival featured more than 500 speakers presenting in 144 events in 35 countries across the globe on Sept. 22 – 24, 2020.
The Society of Actuaries (SOA) and the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) Joint Committee on Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity (JCIED) presented a session at this year’s festival, and the recording is now available. The session featured TED-style talks from four analytical minds who are challenging the status quo, as described in the session description:
Unconventional Wisdom from Conventional Quants
It is widely recognized that there is a lack of diversity in analytical fields like Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), and it’s especially true in the actuarial profession. That’s why two professional societies have joined forces to effect change. The SOA and CAS are working together to build a more diverse and inclusive insurance industry at all levels of leadership in the U.S., and around the world. This session will introduce the audience to the work of the JCIED and be moderated by its Co-Chairs, Mallika Bender, FCAS, MAAA and Sara Teppema, FSA, MAAA, and feature four distinct presentations:
- The STEM mindset: Cultivating the next generation – Talithia Williams, Ph.D.
- Challenging cultural norms in work and life – Karen DeToro, FSA
- Building ethical, inclusive, and fair AI – Michael Y. Xiao, FSA
- Growing through global experiences – Alejandra Nolibos, FCAS
The session recording is now available for viewing on the Dive In YouTube channel.
