Mortality Improvement Scale MP-2019

The annuity factors in Table 3.1 and the corresponding impacts of updating from Scale MP-2018 to Scale MP-2019 in Table 3.2 were incorrect for RP-2006 and the Pub-2010 tables in the originally published version of the report. These have now been updated.

The Retirement Plans Experience Committee of the Society of Actuaries (RPEC) is pleased to present this annual update to the RPEC_2014 model and its corresponding mortality improvement scales. This new version of the model reflects historical U.S. population mortality experience through 2017. For clarity, the updated mortality improvement scale based on this 2019 version of the model is called Scale MP-2019.

The Scale MP-2019 Report has been posted below along with an Excel version of Scale MP-2019.

Also below is a new version of the RPEC_2014 model, entitled RPEC_2014_v2019. This Excel-based implementation tool can be used to generate alternate improvement scales using the RPEC_2014 methodology.

Subsection 3.3 of the Scale MP-2019 Report describes a model based on “order-2” historical graduation, which was released for the first time in 2018. This alternative model has been updated with U.S. population experience through 2017. The new version is entitled “RPEC_O2_v2019” and can be accessed below.
