Description: Reinsurance is a global business, yet reinsurers suffer from widely disparate accounting and regulatory requirements from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, particularly in the areas of credit for reinsurance and collateral requirements. Recently, insurance regulators in the United States and worldwide have taken dramatic steps toward harmonization, mutual recognition and regulatory cooperation in connection with regulation of reinsurance, with a focus on modernizing collateral requirements.

Description: This section presents and summarizes major insurance-related legal cases of 1957, including a case regarding interpretation of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act of 1940 with amendments, FIT deduction of group disability benefits, FTC jurisdiction over advertising, group life employee ineligibility and incontestable clause, date of reinstatement, and claims issues.

Description: Latin America has acquired an economically strategic importance in the process of globalization that it did not have a decade ago. The region has attracted significant attention and investment by the international insurance industry. This article explores some issues related to the growth in supply of insurance companies capacity, the relatively slower pace of growth in consumer demand for their products, and the factors that companies can identify in forming their strategies to achieve their objectives.
