Description: In an increasing population the number of persons falls off from age to age more rapidly than does the stationary population of the life table. This can introduce a systematic bias into life table calculations. The first part of the paper describes an iterative procedure to correct for the bias, extends the method to multiple decrement and associated single decrement life tables, and demonstrates the magnitude of the bias involved. The second part of the paper summarizes the results of applying iterative life table techniques to 165 populations which encompass over a century's experience and include countries from all parts of the world. Description: In general, a complete annuity of one per annum may be defined as a curtate annuity of one per annum with an additional final payment, made a fraction of a year after the last payment of one, representing the accrued portion of the succeeding payment not yet due. This paper explores the relationships which occur if compound interest is used instead of simple interest to calculate the final partial payment.

Description: This paper is from the Transactions of Society of Actuaries 1956 Volume 8, Number 20. It was presented at the 1956 Spring Meetings of the Society of Actuaries for discussion. The authors present a method for calculating the level annual premium for a life insurance policy paying the face amount plus reserve at death. The authors’ purpose is to obtain a slightly more general result than previously published formulas, using a more direct route.

Description: This is a discussion of the paper, 'Payment of Reserve in Addition to Face Amount' by Paul W. Nowlin and T. N. E. Greville, which discussed a method for determining the level premium for such coverage. This discussion applies risk theory to the insurance discussed in the paper.
