This session will focus on key actuarial liability and reserve provisions, including Claims Unpaid and Premium Deficiency Reserves. In this session, explore new ideas about calculation methods and the importance of the underlying assumptions. You will also learn best practices and practical applications concerning reserve calculation discuss best practices regarding the preparation of an actuarial memorandum supporting a Health Annual Statement. This will include key considerations from the American Academy of Actuaries' Practice Note about documenting and supporting the actuarial calculations. The discussion will also present views and considerations from both the insurer's and the regulator's perspectives.

Description: Internal audit (IA) projects typically focus on evaluating the risks and operational effectiveness of a company’s technological, regulatory/compliance, and/or financial processes and procedures. Because LDTI and IFRS 17 compliance will require extensive rewiring of existing and possibly the implementation of new processes and procedures to comply with the new accounting requirements, IA will be critical in conducting the initial risk assessment of these changes, monitoring of the process changeover, and conducting a post-implementation validation after conversion. Explore many specific areas that will be impacted, highlight those aspects likely to be under the IA magnifying glass, and find out how you can best prepare your IA teams to understand the changes and expedite the testing timeframes of their audits. Description: Health insurance company assets and liabilities have evolved since the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law in March 2010. The ACA fundamentally rearranged how commercial health insurance is funded by integrating federal premium subsidies and pass-throughs together with a marketplace interwoven with transfer payments among stakeholders. The impacts of these programs can be seen in specific accounting items on the balance sheets of health insurance companies over the past 10 years. Their emergence follows three primary trends: (1) balance sheet items tend to be larger and take longer to settle, (2) there are more interactions among items, and (3) the final settlement amounts are more uncertain.
