Description: A new approach to retirement is needed which allows a transition period from full work to full retirement, allowing people to continue working well past the traditional retirement age. This article discusses the possibility that employees will survive beyond their retirement funds and proposes a new retirement perspective that retirement progams should treat longevity as an insurable event and different strategies for this longevity risk.

Description: Discussant comments for the 2009 Housing Wealth monograph paper, “The Financial Well-Being of American Retirees.” The paper presents the findings of a study which examines four age groups of retirees and how well they are meeting their financial needs and how much an effect real estate can have on meeting retirement expenses. The discussant cites reasons why the results of the study are more positive than other studies.

Description: This paper describes the features of the Retirement Shares Plan RSP, a new concept in pension benefit design, as an alternative to traditional defined benefit or defined contribution retirement plans.
