The authors present a method for calculating the level annual premium for a life insurance policy paying the face amount plus reserve at death. The authors’ purpose is to obtain a slightly more general result than previously published formulas, using a more direct route.

This panel will explore 4 distinctly different guaranteed issue approaches the creation of underwriting pools for agencies and agents in the individual non-pension insurance sales area with respect to business insurance guaranteed issue mortality experience in the individual policy pension trust area how guaranteed issue underwriting is used in some direct-response marketing and finally, offering of additional insurance on a simplified underwriting basis for certain classes of existing policyholders.

Description: The Reinsurance Section, Product Development Section and the Committee on Life Insurance Research are pleased to present results from a company practice survey of individual life insurance accelerated underwriting. Performed by a Milliman team led by Al Klein and Karen Rudolph, the study provides perspectives from both direct life insurance companies and reinsurers. Among the areas addressed include the structure of accelerated underwriting programs, how programs are monitored, how accelerated underwritten business is performing relative to expectations and how companies are considering accelerated underwriting cohorts in the context of VM-20 assumption setting.

Description: The days of reinsurance treaties bound by a handshake are long gone. Treaties have evolved into complex legal documents. The session will use a recently released study on recapture provisions as a starting point and will expand the discussion to other key treaty provisions. The focus will be on understanding the intentions, concerns and relative positions of both the direct company and the reinsurer so that a mutually beneficial compromise can be explored.
