Description: The COVID-19 pandemic infection has greatly affected the economy, resulting in volatile market conditions. Because market conditions greatly impact the value of insurance company’s assets and liabilities, the fourth survey in this series focused on best practices around asset and liability management (ALM). The survey was directed at actuaries, investment managers and risk managers directly involved in assessing the impact of recent events on ALM. Responses to the survey were collected between April 22-28, 2020. Thirty-two companies responded to the survey.

This report is based on 2020 provisional death data released by the CDC. The SOA plans to update this report after additional 2020 cause of death data in released by the CDC later in 2021.

Description: The goal of the third survey in this series is to collect and disseminate information on best practices around sales and the issuance of new business. The survey was directed at staff directly involved in assessing the impact of recent events on new business processes.

Description: The Predictive Modeling Survey Subcommittee of the Society's Committee on Life Insurance Mortality & Underwriting Surveys has completed its report on the results of a survey that gathered information on behalf of the life insurance industry about the degree of the use of predictive modeling and the tools and methods used by life insurance companies to optimize results.

Description: COVID-19 brought changes that disrupted virtually everyone’s personal and professional lives. In April 2021, the Society of Actuaries (SOA) surveyed 26,101 members and candidates to understand the pandemic’s impact on actuarial careers. Approximately 7% (1,912) responded and included demographic information, 77% of whom were from the U.S., 14% from Canada and 9% from other countries.1 The SOA also analyzed actuarial exam progress at an aggregate level.

Description: The Individual Life Experience Committee has completed their latest report on intercompany mortality experience by amount of insurance under standard individually underwritten issues. This includes study years 2009-2015.

Description: LIMRA, Reinsurance Group of America (RGA), the Society of Actuaries Research Institute (SOA), and TAI have collaborated on an ongoing effort to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the individual life insurance industry’s mortality experience and share the emerging results with the insurance industry and the public. This report documents a high-level analysis of the claims that have been reported through December 31, 2021. The results presented here are based on data from 32 companies representing approximately 72% of the individual life insurance in force for the experience period of the study.
