Description: This article is a brief review of the Society of Actuaries 1981 monograph ‘Adverse Deviation,’ by John C. Wooddy et. al. The author of this review notes that the monograph describes the approach - devised by the Committee on Theory of Risk - to ‘the problem of providing appropriately for the risks of adverse deviation in a GAAP valuation under the specifications of the ‘Audit Guide for Stock Life Insurance Companies.’

Description: This article discusses the development of Universal Life insurance in the U.S. from the British perspective. The author notes that despite the different regulatory and fiscal climates in the U.S. and U.K., the key elements of Universal Life design can be found in similar products in the U.K. known there as unit-linked products. The differences in design, in part the result of differing tax policies, are also discussed.
