The key is communicating data insights into a language that transcends analysis and enables real-time decisions that can provide an advantage to your management team. Learn an approach to choosing a tool or medium for your data insights, questions to ask yourself to better understand the communication necessary, and perspectives on how actuaries can take a larger role in actionable decisions within the industry. Understand availability, quality, and practical application of data sources health actuaries can access easily, how that data looks, approaches to transforming data into decisions, how it enriches administrative and claims data, and applications to pricing and reserving. Finally, discuss implications of ASOP 23, ASOP 41, and ASOP 56 as it relates to this topic. By attending this session, you will be able to: - Create an action plan on how to transform data into messaging for your leaders. - Use real experiences to formulate a strategy to expand the actuaries' role in informing decisions within the industry, including examples, to illustrate how data can benefit financials of health coverages. - Understand the application of ASOP 23 (Data), ASOP 41 (Communication), and ASOP 56 (Modeling) as it relates to turning data into decisions. - Be knowledgeable about new sources of morbidity for medical care and LTC and how to acquire and apply this information in actuarial models.

Description: The Society of Actuaries (SOA) Research Institute released an updated report summarizing current issues regarding actuarial technology. In March 2022, for a second time, the SOA Research Institute gathered a panel of insurance industry experts for an update on current actuarial technology topics to help identify directions for future research efforts. This report summarizes their discussions on the Actuarial operating model, technology risk and open-source software.

Description: This project pertained to the development of anew Actuarial Science Learning Community model, involving four types of students' engagement: academic coursework, residential life, research, and professional development. The model provided students an immersive exposure to Data Science from the Actuarial perspective, which will result in Actuarial students greatly expanding their skill set and future job opportunities, at the intersection of Actuarial Science and Data Science.

Each participant will have a distinct viewpoint on remote work based on their situation, including: Liz Dietrich, who led her Prudential team through the initial shift to remote work during the pandemic and will address the team’s next steps. Amanda Hug, who joined Willis Towers Watson during the pandemic by interviewing remotely and then learned to integrate into the corporate culture the same way. Vincent Xuan, who will provide insight around how his team at Equitable adapted to remote work. During this webcast, the panel will share: Their perspectives based on their unique situations Best practices and leadership tips for managing teams and workloads remotely Thoughts on how we did as an industry with the shift to remote work Leadership skills that are critical for moving forward in a hybrid (remote and in-person) world

Description: It’s tough climbing the corporate ladder as an Asian woman in the United States. In my journey, I wish I had a mentor to share their experience, clarify what I was facing, reassure me that I was not alone and guide me. That’s why I’m sharing my experience managing three cultural norms that I found most challenging professionally: 1. Obey your elders. 2. Pass exams and focus on technical skills. 3. Do not rock the boat or want too much.
