Description: This report presents the results of a survey undertaken by the Society of Actuaries Committee on Life Insurance Mortality and Underwriting Surveys - Early Duration Claims Survey Subcommittee. The Survey was sent to actuaries and underwriters at life insurers and life reinsurers in the United States and concerned life insurance claims in early policy durations – defined as the first five policy years. Topics of questions included underwriting, claims practices, how early duration claims are monitored, and early duration mortality experience.

Description: This report, from the Society of Actuaries [SOA] ‘Experience Studies – Individual Disability,’ was prepared by the Individual Disability Experience Committee [IDEC] of the SOA. In November of 1999, the NAIC Life and Health Actuarial Task Force [LHATF] formally requested that the SOA undertake a study of individual disability income [IDI] experience in the U.S. and the construction of new morbidity tables based on that experience. In January of 2005, the IDEC released the original report. Subsequent to the distribution of that report, some contributing companies submitted revised data to the SOA. Along with the resulting data clean up, refinements were made to the actual to expected calculations. The revised report was released in June, 2011. This report presents the results of the experience study conducted by the IDEC, which will subsequently turn its attention to the construction of new morbidity tables.
