Description: The Society of Actuaries’ Social Insurance and Public Finance Section is pleased to make available the results of a research project that has developed prototype reports intended to provide useful information to a variety of stakeholders on the financial health and prospects of state and municipal plans. The material includes prototype reports on two example state pension systems. The prototype reports include a narrative portion and a dashboard that provides quantitative indicators and a summary of the structure of benefits and actuarial assumptions. Description: In this report, we explore the impact of clustering using the Medical Expenditure Panel Study (MEPS) data for children (aged 5 to 17) to build a bridge between oral health and overall health using dental and medical expenditures. We include social determinants of health as cluster input variables using the Partitioning around Medoids (PAM) method to identify children and their families who could potentially benefit from population health management related to oral health.

Description: This report, part of the Society of Actuaries [SOA] ‘Experience Studies – Business Practice Surveys,’ presents the results of the survey conducted by the SOA Committee on Life Insurance Mortality and Underwriting Surveys - Older Age Underwriting Practices Survey Subcommittee. The purpose of this survey is to explore practices that underwriters utilize in both formal and informal ways to assess older age applicants.

Description: This report, part of the Society of Actuaries [SOA] ‘Experience Studies – Business Practice Surveys,’ presents the results of the survey conducted by the SOA Committee on Life Insurance Mortality and Underwriting Surveys - Mortality Table Construction Survey Subcommittee, on the methods used to develop pricing mortality tables for fully underwritten life insurance. The objective of the survey was to gain an understanding of companies’ base mortality tables and the adjustments that were made to arrive at the final tables used in pricing, including whether or not mortality improvement was assumed.
